The Library Hub is a program by the Department of Education aiming to address the lack of public libraries across the countries by setting up the eponymous library hubs. The hubs operate warehouse style, compared to the traditional public library setup--instead of books being individually placed on shelves, they are stored in plastic bins for storage. These bins would then be checked out and brought by teachers and administrators of public schools to their respective public schools, to be returned after twenty-five days.
PGMA cites relevance of technical and vocational education to national growth
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has underscored the relevance of technical and vocational education in societal development.
“Ang edukasyon ay susi sa mas magandang buhay. At sa mga panahong ito, ang malakas na edukasyon ay dapat kasama ng malakas na backbone ng teknolohiya,” [Education is the key to a better life. And in present times, a strong education must be accompanied by a strong technological backbone], the president said in a speech during the inauguration of the Honorio Lopez Technical Institute in Tondo, Manila.
Arroyo stated that education and technology should be strengthened “because we have to build the mind [of the youth] and we have to connect to the world.” She also said that the government has doubled its investments in education and skills training from P90 billion at the beginning of her term to P180 billion at present. This gave rise to the construction of some 100,000 classrooms nationwide, along with the employment of around 60,000 teachers and the establishment of scholarships for deserving students who are taking up Science and Engineering courses.
She also said that there is still a lot to be done in the area of education, which is why she and her administration "remain dedicated in our last months in office to promoting, advancing, pushing for more and better education and better technological infrastructure.”
