Thai education minister Chinnaworn Boonyakiat recognized the efforts of the Philippine government through the Department of Education in making quality education accessible to Filipinos.

We are impressed by how the Philippine education officials optimize limited resources by coming up with innovative schemes to democratize public education,” the visiting minister said in the 45th Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Council Conference and 5th ASEAN Ministers of Education held on the 26-29 of January at the Shangri-La Hotel Mactan in Lapu-lapu City, Cebu.

In his tour of elementary schools in Cebu, Chinnaworn witnessed the condition of public schools in the country with 25 to 50 students per class. He also expressed his admiration of Filipino teachers, for their ability to teach large numbers of students and how  Philippine schools can provide education that helps students integrate with society.

Chinnaworn also compared Thailand's education system with that of the Philippines; class size in Thailand is much smaller than in the Philippines and fast learners are separated from slow learners. He also noted the use of English as a medium of instruction in Filipino schools and consider it advantageous for  students to be learn English at an early age.

He praised the technical-vocational education in Philippine secondary schools and how it helps students develop employable skills by the time they finish high school.
