The Philippine Science High School System (PSHS) plans to extend its curriculum by two more years in hopes of enhancing its advanced science program.
PSHS System Executive Director Filma Brawner said that they have initiated studies for a proposed extension of its curriculum. This plan reinforces the 12-year basic education cycle proposed by the Department of Education (DepEd), to make high school graduates employable even without a college diploma.
The Teachers' Dignity Coalition said that the budget allocation for hiring 10,000 new teachers for next school year is welcome but deem this as not enough to reduce the problem in lack of teachers in public schools.
Benjo Basas, TDC national chairperson said that if the Department of Education wants to achieve the ideal teacher-student ratio, it should hire more than 120,000 teachers. “The 10,000 new teachers is just a small piece of the bulk,” Basas added.
P12.4 billion of the proposed budget is also allocated for the construction of some 20,000 new classrooms.
Basas emphasized that the budget given to the education department will solve a very minimal portion of the problems faced by the public school system today and it needs “more than what the government can offer right now and if we really want to...

Malacañang is allocating the largest portion of the proposed budget for 2011 to the Department of Education with P207.3 billion.
Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma said that “Education is that proposal's top priority in terms of absolute amount.” He added, “where you put your money, that's where your strategy is.” The amount allocated for education makes it clear that there will be more resources for development and the budget will not be solely for debt servicing.
The Aquino administration aims to eradicate poverty and hunger, provide primary education services to all, promote gender equality, improve maternal health, and make sure that the environment is sustainable.
Malacañang's communications chief Herminio Coloma made the same observation and said that the SK “has no choice but to go.”
The SK was created by former president Ferdinand Marcos with the goal of training youth leaders in the community. However, there have been numerous complaints that the SK is just being used by...

He said that scarcity in materials does not hinder the modernization of public schools and it can be achieved “through active partnership with local government units and private sector such as foundations, private corporations and business groups.”
